Bob Cook defines the Bob Greene Moment. Bob Greene is a columnist for the Chicago Tribune, and he used to be one of my favorite writers, but as he grew older he became more and more obsessed with the 50s and how much better he liked things back then, and reading him became tedious. But I have felt Bob Greene Moments, and they're no fun. So I can forgive him for his crankiness.

"In an attempt to ease his constipation, a 64-year-old man had inserted a microwave egg boiler (MEB) into his rectum. This is an egg-shaped device -- 11 cm in diameter at its widest point -- with a rim at the base, and in two halves that can be joined firmly together. Unfortunately, the MEB rather exacerbated his constipation and he presented to us several hours later." Find more stories like this at The Butt Page. Thanks to savecraig for the link.

This page is really quite remarkable. It's a comprehensive (or nearly so) list of search engines, helpfully categoried according to what kind of content you can search for and the kinds of search logic you can use. Thanks to the Langa List for the link.

I thought this article about a woman seeking a divorce because her husband's penis was too large was amusing at first. But there was the term I didn't recognize, vesico vaginal fistulae, so I looked it up. And, ew. More power to you, lady.

I don't make a habit of reading the Drudge Report, but andrewsullivan.com pointed me to this article about an upcoming photo spread in Vogue showing models impersonting Jenna and Barbara Bush. It's worth a look, if only for the photo.

And as an aside to Laura Bush: fat chance. Just because your daughters act like children doesn't mean they're entitled to the same kind of hands-off treatment Chelsea Clinton and Amy Carter got when they were actually children.

I am a former Boy Scout, but I've been troubled by the BSA's policy on gays. Now a Scout council in (where else?) Boston has drafted a sexual orientation policy that will allow gays to take part in Scouting without violating the BSA's current policy. Good for them!

I heard on the radio this morning (on NPR, where else?) that the Democratic Socialists of America recently celebrated their 100th Anniversary, so in honor of that momentous occasion I present a little page on "The Internationale", everyone's favorite socialist anthem. Make sure you check out the Klingon version.

You never know what's going to turn up in the Microsoft knowledge base. Give them credit for being thorough and using simple language to describe the problem.
