Featured link of the week: Things
to Say When You're Losing a Technical Argument
Of course, I have never lost -- or been in danger of losing -- a technical
argument, so this link is not really of much practical use. But it is very
funny, though you have to know a lot about computers to get all the jokes. (I
myself had to consult the Webopaedia
to figure out some of them.)
Other computer technology links of note:
- Ask
the Computer Guy - The Washington Post runs a weekly computer
advice column. The information it conveys is very basic -- it's geared
toward people who would not understand any of the jokes in Things
to Say When You're Losing a Technical Argument -- but the author, John
Gilroy, has a entertaining style and is quite good at explaining technical
issues to novices.
- The PC
Webopaedia - I am a computer professional, but I'm largely self-taught
and there are a lot of things I don't know very much about. I've found the
Webopedia invaluable when I need to bone up on something quickly so I can
bullshit a client into thinking I know what I'm talking about.
- LangaList
- Fred Langa is a former editor of Byte Magazine who publishes a
twice-weekly e-mail newsletter covering a variety of technical issues. It's
a rare week when I don't find at least one useful tidbit in the newsletter,
and I recommend it to anyone with more than a casual interest in computers.
